Total Facilities and DesignBUILD cancelled – new dates for 2022 announced
The organisers of Total Facilities and DesignBUILD have announced the cancellation of the planned 2021 co-located exhibition due to continued market uncertainty and extended lockdowns impacting the built environment. The events will now return 10-12 May 2022 to the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.
A message to our built environment community
With the COVID-19 situation across the nation and Sydney in particular unfolding rapidly and the expansion of the lockdowns directly impacting the built environment sector, forcing site closures, building tenancy challenges and supply chain disruption, we have made the difficult decision to cancel Total Facilities (TFX) and DesignBUILD 2021 this October.
Whilst it is not a decision we have taken lightly, we feel that the extension of the lockdowns in both Melbourne and Sydney and the impact this will have on business confidence and industry timelines mean that we are no longer able to confidently guarantee the thriving show floor that our audience expects.
We are also aware that our 2022 event scheduled for 10-12 May at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre, is fast approaching. Given the proximity to the 2022 dates, we believe that cancellation to be the most appropriate action, to wait for a period where there is more stability, and to successfully set our exhibitors and sponsors up for a high return on investment next year.
“Whilst it is bitterly disappointing to have to cancel Total Facilities and DesignBUILD in 2021, the current uncertainty caused by snap lockdowns and state border closures meant that we were left with little choice,” said James Laing, Built Environment Commercial Manager.
“It was clear from conversations with key stakeholders that there was a general lack of confidence in terms of what the next few months might bring and we therefore felt that the best course of action was to cancel the 2021 event and immediately focus all our efforts to delivering a strong and vibrant TFX and DesignBUILD in 2022.”
However, while the main exhibitions show floors won’t return until 2022, we are excited to still planning to deliver our newest event brand the Be Summit, in both Melbourne and Sydney in September and October respectively. The Be Summit is a one-day conference, bringing together Australia’s built environment leaders, government policymakers, and market experts to build a roadmap of recovery, and pave the way for future construction and development within Australia’s built environments. The summits are designed as hybrid events with both in person and virtual attendee options to ensure that these event can run regardless of restrictions. Find out more about the Be Summits here.
We are also excited to be launching a new CPD resource, CPD Builder, in the coming months, with a series of half day, online courses from already certified suppliers, with a focus on providing CPD topics that address current guidelines and the most-up-to-date technical information and applications for the industry.
“With a constantly evolving built environment we know how vital it is to stay on top of professional accreditation and that many of our exhibitors have products and courses that can keep our audience accredited,” commented Laing. “Our new CPD BUILDer platform, created and hosted by DesignBUILD, allows already accredited suppliers and new entrants to the CPD program, to access one of Australia’s largest databases of built environment professionals, year-round and help build their brand as a certified thought leader.”
“While we are disappointed not to be able to host TFX and DesignBUILD this year,’ said Laing, “we are continually humbled by the support we have received from our exhibitors, partners, sponsors, speakers and suppliers and we look forward to focusing our efforts on delivering a stand out event for the entire industry in 2022.
