Modern manifestations of work, play and home continue to blur the boundaries of conventional office spaces. We're already experiencing fit outs as luxe as lounge rooms, but what about boardrooms that mirror dining rooms? Or outdoor work areas as cosy as courtyards? Here's our round up of the newest and most stylish work spaces that'll have you seeing double. So, while there's no place like home, your work space isn't far behind.

RPM Real Estate Group, Melbourne
Designed by Rothelowman, RPM Real Estate Group’s bespoke office space in South Melbourne has a focus on user-friendly work solutions for their growing team. Within the offices, filing cabinets are at a low height to allow for easy communication, while managers’ desks are larger than usual to allow more space for teams to gather around during collaborative meetings.
Mondays are the busiest day of the week at the RPM offices as they have a big swell of staff coming in for meetings. For that reason, Rothelowman has designed a large open room that can be used for hot-desking as well as for lunch, complete with Wi-Fi and higher tables and stools, rather than desks. RPM’s new office space is designed with flexibility in mind and the space can be used in many different ways depending on the needs of the team.
Dexus Place at One Farrer, Sydney
Dexus Place at One Farrer provides innovative workplace environments that respond to the needs of the businesses using them. Their newest space is at the premium address of 1 Farrer Place, Sydney, and is flexible and tailored to the future work environment. With the space offering state-of-the-art technology and fine attention to detail including quality fabrics, joinery and finishes and custom-made materials, the building also showcases The Terrace, a large outdoor area that could double as a stylish backyard.
Beautifully tailored with planter boxes, timber log stools and a full-length of Indigo blue upholstered banquette seats, The Terrace offers excellent views over the CBD perfect for accommodating larger events – dinners, cocktail parties and private functions – or just a small meeting.
Enzen is a global renewable energy and technology company that recently set up its first workplace in Adelaide, Australia. Designed by JPE Design Studio, Enzen’s Adelaide offices speak to a younger generation of workers who are seeking flexibility, comfort and workplace design that works with and for them throughout their career.
With a variety of work and social spaces designed to encourage creative thinking, communication and collaboration, the Enzen offices accommodate 70 staff members and include informal meeting areas, quiet nook areas, libraries, a putting green, a table tennis table and innovation lab – all designed to help staff feel at home.
555 Coronation Drive, Brisbane
Traditionally, street art is relegated to outdoor laneways, but it’s been brought inside at this newly revamped office fitout at Toowong, Brisbane. Among the faces on show in large-scale art pieces are David Bowie, Audrey Hepburn, Muhammad Ali and Prince.
Created by Scott Marsh, these lively and colourful feature walls provide a backdrop to the surrounding open plan office space with high ceilings, kitchens and breakout areas. The offices are marketed by Peter Dodd of Savills’ and owned by Centuria Properties’ David Schmidt-Lindner. Dodd states that research shows that employees are more productive in workplaces that are enriched with plants and art, and he expects to see more of this type of design in the workplaces of the future.
Carr Design Group is behind the sophisticated new offices for MFCo in Exhibition Street, Melbourne. These prestigious spaces open into a warm and welcoming ”˜living room’ space complete with bookshelves, couches and soft lighting. The upstairs offices are light, bright and open, as the space encourages staff to gravitate towards comfortable booths and meeting areas that inspire collaboration.
Carr has created a contemporary working environment for MFCo that accurately reflects the company’s rich heritage and its commercial success, while still delivering a comfortable workspace that embraces flexibility and warmth.
